Sharing a little Q&A…
Q. How would you not allow other people’s problems affect your own mood, I’m a bit annoyed by the way other people are behaving?
A. Their problems weren’t affecting you before you knew about
them. So, your mood/feelings were only affected the moment YOU began to THINK about what you had either heard or seen.
Therefore, whatever mood you are in isn’t being created by what you have heard or seen. Your mood / feelings are being created by what YOU are THINKING. This isn’t to say that your feelings aren’t real. They’re real, you’re definitely feeling what you’re feeling, but they aren’t happening to you. They are being created by you, by your thoughts AND your thoughts are defiantly something you can control, if you want to.
The same principle also applies to when we think that we are being annoyed by someone’s behaviour. Again, if we’re feeling it, then we’re creating it. I’m not saying that people don’t do things that we think are annoying, BUT then again, it’s our perception/what we are thinking, which is creating the annoyance we are feeling. If this wasn’t true, ‘then the world will be as one’…Imagine ?
I’m NOT telling you what to think, I’m just letting you know that you have a choice. It’s completely up to you what you think, it’s your life, but remember, whatever YOU think will create a feeling/emotion then a reaction!
Therefore, if you don’t like what you’re feeling, change the way you’re thinking about it. If you find this difficult, then think about something else instead, or do something physically to distract yourself for a few minutes.
Once you give yourself a ‘break’ from the way you have been thinking. You’ll give your mind an opportunity to come up with different solutions to whatever it was you were thinking about. Because your thinking will no longer be influenced by the emotion
s that were created by your original unhelpful thoughts, and you will now feel able to react accordingly!
Unless you decide to try and remember how you originally thought and felt – in this case CONGRATULATIONS! You’ll now pick up where you left off – STUCK! – Which is just pointless and a tad masochistic.
